about
In the late part of the nineteenth century, and even early into part of the twentieth century, a lot of young children were still being forced to work in the underground coal mines to help provide for their families.
this song is a testament to the loss of many childhood dreams, ambitions and in most cases, lives lost deep down under the mountain, picking away at the coal face.
lyrics
Come on boy,
They say boy when are you gonna walk that line?
Put on a hard hat and work in the coal mine
Like your daddy done
with blistered hands, and the black lung
And Oh, I'm begging you please,
Don't let me go to work down there.
Oh I'm begging you please,
Don't let me go to work down there
Cause I'm on the road,
With the radio blasting,
Cause all I am is rock and roll
Well all the boys at home, run a split shift
two days and two nights, two days and two nights
over and over again
Good old boys sittin' in the local bar,
Telling stories about mining in the dark.
And Oh, I'm begging you please,
Don't let me go to work down there.
Oh I'm begging you please,
Don't let me go to work down there
Cause I'm on the road,
With the radio blasting
and this is all I know
Cause I'm on the road,
With the radio blasting,
Cause all I am is rock and roll
nothing but Rock and Roll
